Nagpur: A major fire broke out at a dal processing unit in the Maa Umiyadham industrial area on Bhandara road on Saturday morning, causing an estimated loss of Rs6 crore. No injuries were reported in the incident.The blaze erupted around 9.15am at Sudarshan Dal Company, owned by Girdharilal Kumar Sharma. According to fire officials, the fire primarily damaged large stocks of processed dal and the electric starter panel installed on the premises.Two fire tenders — one each from Kalamna and Wathoda fire stations — were rushed to the spot after the alert was received. Firefighters battled the flames for nearly an hour before bringing the situation under control. Officials said the fire engulfed a section of the factory floor where dal stocks were stored. The electric starter panel was also suspected to be affected, though the exact sequence of events leading to the fire is yet to be ascertained.Police and fire officials began a panchnama of the site. Further investigation is underway to determine whether the blaze was triggered by an electrical fault or any other technical reason.The fire brigade’s timely response prevented the flames from spreading to adjoining industrial units, averting a potentially larger disaster in the busy Kalamna industrial belt.
