Ahmedabad: Thieves decamped with Rs 9.5 lakh in cash from an SUV parked near a hotel construction site in Hathijan on Tuesday afternoon. In his complaint with Vivekanandnagar police, Abidali Sabar (41), a hotelier and businessman from Makarba, said that is developing “Prime Rose Hotel” on Hathijan-Mehmedabad Road. He and his partner Snehal Patel manage the site where around 15 labourers work.Around 3pm, Sabar left his residence in the SUV with Rs 9.5 lakh in cash kept in a white plastic bag to pay workers’ wages. He reached the site near Sadguru Krishna Bungalows at about 4pm and parked the vehicle close to the road, leaving the bag of cash in the front passenger seat. He sat in the office for nearly an hour. Also present at the site were partners Zakir Rabadi, Hasan Rabadi, contractor Anil Patel, and Snehal Patel. As his phone battery was low, Sabar sent his nephew to fetch a power bank from the car. At that time, the vehicle was intact, he told police.
Around 5.30pm, when Sabar returned to the car, he found the window for the front passenger seat shattered and the cash bag missing. Police are scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the accused.
