Ahmedabad: A 58-year-old Mumbai businessman was allegedly robbed of cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 3.47 lakh during an autorickshaw ride in the city earlier this month, according to a complaint registered with Shaherkotda police on Monday. The complainant runs a tea outlet business and came to Ahmedabad with his wife en route to Rajasthan to attend a family wedding.According to the FIR, the couple arrived at Kalupur railway station on March 4 and hired an autorickshaw to reach Asarwa railway station. Two passengers were already seated, while another man joined them midway and sat beside the complainant’s wife.During the ride, the man convinced the woman to place her handbag near his feet, citing a lack of space. The bag contained a small purse with Rs 12,000 in cash, gold jewellery including a two-tola chain, one-tola earrings, two-tola bangles and a silver ornament, along with house and bank locker keys.Upon reaching Asarwa, the couple got down, but the autorickshaw driver fled without collecting the fare. Moments later, they found the handbag partially open and the purse missing. The couple initially alerted police but left for Rajasthan due to prior commitments. After returning, they approached Shaherkotda police and lodged a complaint.
