Gorakhpur: Prioritising railway safety and smoother road movement, Rs 166 crore was sanctioned for construction of road overbridges and road underbridges across NE Railway’s three divisions — Varanasi, Lucknow and Izzatnagar — in the financial year 2026-27.Work is underway to address waterlogging, widening and other improvement requirements at 10 RUBs and limited-height subways in the Izzatnagar and Lucknow divisions. Construction of two new ROBs, one each in the Izzatnagar and Varanasi divisions, is also progressing. In addition, five new RUBs/LHSs are being constructed in the Varanasi division.Kumar said level crossing gates are getting replaced with ROBs and RUBs wherever required to separate rail and road traffic. The move is intended to reduce congestion at railway crossings, eliminate waiting time for road users and improve coordination between rail and road transportation.
