Varanasi: The 42nd Raising Day of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) was celebrated with great enthusiasm and gaiety at the RPF Barracks, Banaras Locomotive Works Varanasi, on Sunday, Sept 20.The Railway Protection Force attained its present status as an armed force of the Union with effect from Sept 20, 1985, following amendments to the Railway Protection Force Act, 1957. The RPF is entrusted with the responsibility of protecting railway property as well as ensuring the security of passengers and passenger areas.Various programmes were organised at RPF, BLW, Varanasi, to mark the occasion. RPF officers and personnel enthusiastically participated in ‘Run for Unity’, a yoga programme, tree plantation and cleanliness activities under the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign.The ‘Run for Unity’ conveyed the message of unity, discipline and dedication to the nation, while the yoga programme highlighted the importance of a healthy lifestyle and physical and mental fitness.Reaffirming its commitment towards environmental protection, the RPF undertook tree plantation at the barracks premises. On the occasion, RPF personnel present also pledged to plant more trees and ensure their proper care and protection.As part of the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign, a cleanliness drive was conducted at the barracks premises, conveying the message of a clean environment, promoting healthy living and protecting the environment.The principal chief security commissioner, assistant security commissioner, inspectors and RPF personnel were present on the occasion.As part of the celebrations, a ‘Bada Khana’ was also organised in the barracks premises in the evening to promote camaraderie, fellowship and a sense of brotherhood among the RPF personnel.The Raising Day of the Railway Protection Force is not merely an annual celebration, but also an occasion to reaffirm its commitment towards duty, discipline, courage and the spirit of service. The RPF, BLW, remains committed to discharging its responsibility of ensuring the security of railway passengers and railway property with utmost dedication, sincerity and professionalism.
