CHENNAI: A history-sheeter involved in more than 30 criminal cases, including five murders and a dacoity, was killed in a police encounter near Madhavaram around 5.45 am on Monday.The deceased rowdy was identified as Thoppai Ganesan.A police team investigating a dacoity case tracked Ganesan’s movements and cornered him near the Chinna roundabout. Ganesan fled from the spot. When a police officer attempted to apprehend him, Ganesan allegedly attacked the officer and tried to escape.Inspector Bhoopathy Raj of the Thiru Vi Ka Nagar police station and his team opened fire, initially giving a warning to stop him. When Ganesan continued to flee, the police opened fire at him.Ganesan suffered severe injuries and was rushed to a hospital near Puzhal, where he succumbed to his injuries. His body was sent to Government Stanley Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
