Surat: Rough diamond traders held a meeting at Surat Diamond Bourse (SDB) on Thursday to discuss steps to make rough diamond trading more organized, centralized and efficient.At the meeting, traders unanimously resolved that all rough diamond import and trading activities would be conducted from SDB. This aims to bring major trading operations under one roof and create a structured ecosystem for the rough diamond business. Diamond businessman Umesh Shah shared his experience of operating from SDB, highlighting the business and operational advantages he gained since setting up his office at the bourse. His remarks were well received by other traders present. The decision comes ahead of a special event at SDB on Saturday, when deputy chief minister Harsh Sanghavi will be felicitated. Several diamond businessmen are expected to announce the opening of their offices at SDB at the event. Efforts are also underway to link online rough diamond traders in Surat with the initiative. Large city companies that currently trade from their own offices have expressed interest in joining SDB. Addressing the meeting, Lalji Patel, vice-chairman of SDB, said, “The decision to fully centralize rough diamond trading at SDB will prove beneficial for the industry. Bringing import, trading and tender activities to one location would improve security and efficiency.” He added, “Traders have shown collective commitment to begin operations at SDB within the agreed timeline.”
