Jhajjar: The murder of 26-year-old financier Sahil Ahlawat in Jhajjar took a fresh turn on Thursday after an alleged social media post linked to gangster Rohit Godara’s gang surfaced online, claiming responsibility for the killing.Police, however, said the authenticity of the post was yet to be verified and it was being examined as part of the investigation.Police sources said three assailants arrived in a vehicle, opened fire at the gate and then entered the premises. Ahlawat allegedly tried to flee but was chased and shot multiple times at close range. He died on the spot. Investigators said the attack was captured on CCTV footage, indicating it was premeditated. In the viral message, the gang allegedly claimed it had orchestrated the killing, accusing Ahlawat of charging exorbitant interest from borrowers and seizing properties in cases of default. The post also claimed he had been warned around six months ago to stop such activities. The victim’s father, Nar Singh alias Kukku Pradhan, termed the murder a “well-planned conspiracy” and alleged the involvement of certain villagers, relatives and possible police inaction, claiming prior threats had been reported earlier. At PGI Rohtak and later at the family’s home in Dighal village, scenes of grief unfolded as relatives gathered around the body. The victim’s mother, Babita, broke down repeatedly, demanding swift arrests and strict punishment for those behind the killing.Tension prevailed for some time before the cremation, with the victim’s father initially refusing to proceed with the last rites until the accused were arrested. Family members, relatives and village elders were seen trying to console him and persuade him to go ahead. The cremation was eventually carried out on Thursday afternoon amid a heavy turnout, with nearly 1,500 people, mostly youths, joining the funeral procession.Police said Ahlawat had three to four criminal cases registered against him, including assault-related offences, and investigators were examining whether any past dispute could have contributed to the motive.Security was tightened in and around Dighal village, with checkpoints set up on key approach roads.Police have registered a case under murder and Arms Act provisions and formed multiple teams to trace the accused. Investigators said they were probing the case from multiple angles, including gang involvement, financial rivalry and personal enmity.
