Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) enforcement department carried out a major anti-encroachment drive across multiple zones of the city on Thursday, intensifying action against illegal vendors and structures occupying roads and footpaths.In Dharampeth Zone, joint teams removed illegal stalls and shops set up along both sides of the road and footpaths from the zone office to Sitabuldi Main Road, stretching up to Variety Square and back. Goods, including clothing materials, were seized during the drive.Joint squads also operated across stretches in Gandhibagh zone, including Mahal Chowk, Badkas Chowk, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue area, Kalyaneshwar temple, Kelibagh Road and Ayachit Mandir. Another team covering Dharampeth zone and Dhantoli zone cleared encroachments from areas including VCA Ground to the Collectorate, Civil Lines (near Bata), NMC headquarters, Mominpura, Bhavan School, Sitabuldi Metro Station, Lokmat Square, Rahate Colony and Jhansi Rani Square. Officials reported that approximately one truckload of seized materials was confiscated.Special attention was given to areas around Rajwada Palace and Haj House, where encroachments were removed in view of the Haj pilgrimage activities.The drive was carried out under deputy commissioner (enforcement) Mangesh Khawle, assistant commissioner Sanjay Kamble and deputy engineer Udaysingh Khandate.
