Mumbai: The road tests for recalibrating auto and taxi meters with revised fares started Monday. A road test is the final step for meters to be sealed and approved by RTO, after which the autos and taxis will display meters with minimum new fares of Rs 27 and Rs 33 respectively.While officials from Tardeo and Wadala RTO were unavailable for providing the data, an official from Andheri RTO said that 21 vehicles, including 14 Kaali Peeli taxis and seven autos, successfully completed road tests and their meters will show the new fares from Monday evening.At Borivli RTO, 13 autos came for the road tests on RTO tracks. While bench tests check the technical functioning of a meter, road tests are mandatory to ensure accuracy under actual operating conditions. During the process, the vehicle is driven on a designated RTO track and the distance covered is matched against the meter reading. Only after the readings are found accurate does the RTO seal and certify the meter.
