Ara: A 40-year-old woman was crushed to death by a speeding dumper truck on Monday morning near the Sun temple at Chandwa under Nawada police station area in Ara town of Bhojpur district.The deceased was identified as Neetu Devi, wife of Sudhir Singh, a sub-inspector posted in Ranchi, Jharkhand. SI is a resident of Kaushikpur Dularchak village under Mufassil police station area.According to police, Neetu was riding to the market with her husband on a scooter when the heavy vehicle hit them, killing her on the spot. Her husband sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment at Sadar hospital, Ara. The accident occurred around 11am.Angry over alleged rash driving by truck drivers, locals blocked the Ara-Buxar main road, pelted stones at the vehicle involved in the mishap and attempted to vandalise it. Protesters also burnt tyres, bringing traffic to a standstill.“There must be strict enforcement of the no-entry rule for heavy vehicles during daytime. Rash driving by truck drivers is causing frequent accidents,” a protester said.Ara Sadar SDPO-1 Raj Kumar Shah and Nawada SHO Vipin Bihari, along with other police personnel, rushed to the spot and persuaded the protesters to lift the blockade, assuring them of necessary steps to prevent such incidents.“The blockade lasted for about 45 minutes. Police are trying to trace and arrest the driver,” Nawada SHO Vipin Bihari said.
