Patna: A fresh round of political discussion emerged in the state after RJD MLA Faisal Rahman met CM Nitish Kumar at the latter’s official residence on Thursday, days after abstaining from voting in the Rajya Sabha elections that led to the defeat of the lone opposition candidate A D Singh.Rahman, who represents the Dhaka assembly constituency in East Champaran district, visited the CM House on Thursday morning and held discussions with Kumar. While details of the meeting were not disclosed, Rahman said he discussed various development projects aimed at the overall progress of his constituency.“The CM gave positive assurances on all proposals and reiterated his commitment to the development of the region. I am confident the implementation of these schemes will give new impetus to Dhaka’s development and will greatly benefit the general public,” Rahman wrote on social media. He also shared photographs of the meeting in which he presented a bouquet to Kumar. The meeting comes a few days after Rahman was appointed chairman of the Non-Governmental Bills and Resolutions Committee. Apart from him, Congress MLA Manohar Prasad Singh, who also abstained from voting, was appointed chairman of the Pratyayukta Samiti. Two other Congress MLAs had also not participated in the voting process. The development has drawn political attention as the RJD is yet to take disciplinary action against Rahman. Asked whether the party would act against the legislator, party spokesperson Shakti Singh Yadav said any decision would be taken after Tejashwi Prasad Yadav returns from Kerala, where he has gone to campaign for a party candidate.Analysts said the RJD currently has 25 MLAs in the assembly, the number required to retain the status of leader of opposition. “If the RJD takes action against Rahman, Tejashwi will instantly lose the status of the LoP,” a political expert said.
