Patna: Riverfront development, drinking water strengthening and urban infrastructure upgrades were among 69 development proposals approved by the empowered standing committee of the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) at its 20th meeting held on Friday.The urban landscape will be developed with riverfront stretches from Naujar Ghat to Didarganj and from Collectorate Ghat to Digha. These areas will be equipped with lighting, parks, pedestrian walkways and green belts. The committee also approved the appointment of a private agency for tax assessment and revenue recovery, modernisation of public toilets and steps to strengthen the city’s drinking water infrastructure.A decision was taken to construct a mall on Arya Kumar Road and to initiate the hiring of consultants for urban flood management. Detailed project reports will be prepared for redevelopment of the New Market area and landscaping of major roads. A progress report on construction of five model toilets was presented, and responsibility for their operation and maintenance was finalised.Addressing the summer season, the corporation devised a strategy to prevent water scarcity. Twenty-five specialised gangmen teams, comprising four members each, will be deployed to resolve pipeline complaints, with each team assigned three wards. Pipelines will be laid at 80 locations and high-yield boring projects approved. To prevent waterlogging, drainage strengthening will be prioritised and “Manhole Ambulances” made operational.The meeting also approved modernisation of electric crematoriums at Khajekalan and Gulbi Ghat and repair of the animal electric crematorium at Ramchak Bairiya. Budget provisions for 2025-26 covering roads, drains, underground sewerage and eco-friendly solid waste management were cleared, along with projects under Swachh Survekshan, city beautification, community halls and park renovation.Mayor Sita Sahu said, “PMC’s goal is to complete development projects with speed and high quality to transform Patna into a clean, organised, and modern city.” PMC commissioner Yashpal Meena said, “Execution of all approved proposals will be ensured within the stipulated timeframe. Through regular monitoring, we will ensure that the benefits of these projects reach the citizens promptly.” The meeting was attended by deputy mayor Reshmi Kumari and committee members.
