Madhubani: The prospects of reviving the closed Sakri Sugar Mill gained momentum on Wednesday after an expert team from the National Federation of Cooperative Sugar Factories Limited (NFCSF), including chief cane advisor R B Dole and technical advisor K M Chaudhary, inspected the site to prepare its feasibility and detailed project report (DPR), signalling a major push toward restarting the cooperative mill.The team assessed land conditions, access roads, water availability, electricity supply, sugarcane production areas, transportation facilities, and other technical and geographical parameters.Following the inspection, the experts held direct discussions with local sugarcane farmers, who shared concerns regarding production, marketing challenges, fair pricing, transportation hurdles, and the expected benefits once the mill becomes operational.The team assured farmers that the cooperative sugar mill would ensure fair and timely cane payments, generate local employment, strengthen economic activities, and promote agro-based industries.District cooperative officer and district cane officer were also present during the inspection and consultations, providing key data on current sugarcane production, district potential, and the need for such a mill.The establishment of the cooperative sugar mill is being viewed as a major milestone for the development of Sakri and surrounding areas of Madhubani.This development aligns with broader initiatives underway in Bihar. On Monday, the state cooperative department signed an MoU with NFCSF in Patna to revive two closed sugar mills—Sakri (Madhubani) and Raiyam (Darbhanga).Both mills, shut since 1997, are being revived as modern multi-purpose sugarcane complexes, with NFCSF serving as the nodal agency for preparing feasibility reports, DPRs, and providing technical consultancy.
