Hyderabad: Launching a sharp attack on the BRS leadership, chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday alleged that former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and senior party leaders KT Rama Rao and T Harish Rao amassed enormous wealth during the BRS’s decade-long rule and were now trying to create a narrative around KCR’s return to power for political survival.Addressing a public meeting at Midjil mandal in the Jadcherla assembly constituency of the erstwhile Mahbubnagar district, Revanth claimed that the previous BRS govt had burdened Telangana with massive debt while failing to deliver on several promises made to the people.“The BRS leaders looted ₹1 lakh crore and put another ₹8 lakh crore debt burden on the state during their 10-year rule. If they come back to power, they will listen to even the conversations between wife and husband. KCR is not even coming to the assembly to discuss the issues faced by people. They want to once again loot and infringe upon the private conversations of the people,” he said.Questioning the BRS demand that the Congress govt step down, Revanth sought to contrast his govt’s welfare initiatives with the previous regime’s record. He asked whether the Congress should be removed for issuing ration cards, supplying fine rice, providing 200 units of free electricity, offering LPG cylinders at ₹500, extending free RTC bus travel for women, waiving crop loans worth ₹21,000 crore, procuring paddy from farmers and paying a ₹500 bonus. The chief minister also highlighted the govt’s housing programme, noting that 4.5 lakh Indiramma houses had been sanctioned in the first phase, while another 2,000 houses per assembly constituency were being approved in the second phase.“Why should the BRS come back to power and why should the Congress govt be ousted? The Congress govt paid ₹80,000 crore to farmers for the paddy procurement in the last 30 months. Over ₹1.75 lakh crore has been spent on farmers’ welfare. The BRS leaders had pocketed commissions even in Bathukamma sarees’ contract,” he alleged.Expressing confidence about the party’s future, Revanth said the Congress would remain in power in Telangana until 2034.The chief minister also struck an emotional note, recalling that his electoral journey began in Midjil when he was elected as a ZPTC member from the area in 2006. Thanking the people for their support, he urged them to play a key role in strengthening the Congress at the national level.“Telangana people should extend their gratitude to Sonia Gandhi for granting statehood to Telangana. You should support my efforts to make Rahul Gandhi the PM of the country,” he said.Revanth asked deputy chief minister Bhatti Vikramarka to adopt Midjil mandal and develop it into a model region.
