Noida: Noida Authority and the irrigation department have started redeveloping the 11.2km Yamuna Pushta road stretching from Okhla Barrage to Sector 135. Built in 2014, the four-lane stretch sees spillover traffic from Noida Expressway but is currently filled with potholes and rough patches.Officials said that once redeveloped, the road will allow commuters to bypass the expressway, which is expected to see huge traffic volume as passenger footfall picks up at Noida International Airport in Jewar, to reach adjacent residential sectors.NHAI and Noida Authority are also planning an eight-lane elevated expressway over Pushta Road to decongest further the 25km expressway, which receives traffic from multiple entry points, including DND Flyway, Chilla border and Kalindi Kunj. Traffic from adjoining residential and commercial areas also merges onto the corridor during office hours, often resulting in slow-moving traffic and longer commute times.Once revamped, the four-lane Pushta Road is expected to serve adjacent sectors, including 94, 125-128, 132 and 135, as well as areas such as Asgharpur, Raipur, Nangla Nangli and Wajidpur villages. The 50km elevated expressway — spanning Sector 94 to Sector 23C under Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), where it will meet the Faridabad-Jewar Greenfield Expressway — is expected to divert traffic for Noida International Airport and areas under YEIDA from Noida Expressway.SK Maheshwari, a resident of Jaypee Wish Town in Sector 128, said hundreds of people use Pushta Road every day, but potholes, dust and roadside debris have made it difficult to travel on the road.“As data centres, multiple manufacturing units and residential projects are coming up along the two expressways in the district, civic infrastructure needs to be developed. But the existing ones should be revamped first. It is time that Authority repairs Pushta Road to ease rush-hour tailbacks on the expressway,” he said.Currently, earthwork, levelling and widening of the existing carriageway of Pushta Road are underway. The project, estimated at Rs 34 crore, is expected to be completed within three months. Officials said the redevelopment will include development of road shoulders, finishing of edges, installation of crash barriers, road markings, signage, painting and street lighting and electrical works wherever required.“We have started the redevelopment of this road. The teams are working to level the road and then resurface it. Crash barriers, painting and other works will also be carried out. The redevelopment will be completed in three months,” Noida Authority general manager AK Arora said. Authority is also planning to upgrade the remaining 10-km stretch of Pushta Road towards Sector 150, the official said.
