Jamshedpur: A retired Tata Steel officer allegedly died by suicide after jumping from the terrace of a 10-storey apartment building in Baridih early Monday, police said.Sandip Pal (62), former chief of the Merchant Mill at Tata Steel, lived on the second floor of Vijaya Gardens in Phase VII.Officer in-charge of the Birsanagar police station, Santosh Kumar, said, “Pal reportedly went to the terrace and jumped. Residents, alerted by a loud thud, took him to a hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.”“Pal returned home around two weeks ago after dropping his daughter in Mumbai for her college degree. Since then, he appeared worried about her future and safety,” an area resident said.Preliminary investigation revealed that he was under mental stress and anxiety. The exact circumstances behind the step would be probed, police added.
