New Delhi: An 80-year-old retired Delhi Police sub-inspector was critically injured after he was allegedly shot by two unidentified men in outer Delhi’s Mundka area on Thursday afternoon. Police said they are probing a possible property dispute as part of the investigation.The victim was identified as Rishal Singh, a resident of Bakkarwala. He retired as a sub-inspector in 2006. According to police, information regarding the firing incident was received around 1.15 pm from the Bakkarwala area. A team from the local police station immediately rushed to the spot .A preliminary investigation revealed that Singh was present at his plot of land, where boundary construction work was under way, when the attack occurred. “At the time of the incident, he was supervising work at his plot. As per initial enquiry, two motorcycle-borne assailants arrived and fired multiple rounds at him before fleeing the scene,” a police officer said. The accused reportedly escaped along with an associate.Singh sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed to Rathi Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. “A property dispute related to land in outer Delhi was ongoing, which is being examined as a possible motive,” an officer added.Police are also looking into a recent scuffle in Bahadurgarh involving a member of the victim’s family to determine whether it is linked to the shooting.A case was registered under relevant sections at Mundka police station, and a detailed investigation is under way. Multiple teams were constituted to identify and apprehend the accused. Police are scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas and questioning locals to gather leads. Efforts are also being made to trace the motorcycle used in the crime and establish the exact sequence of events.
