SONIPAT: The death of 60-year-old retired Haryana Police personnel Jai Singh, who was found hanging at his residence in Sonipat, has taken a turn with police registering a murder case against Satta on the complaint of the deceased’s son, Nitin.No arrest has been made so far, with police maintaining that the allegations and circumstances surrounding the death will first be thoroughly investigated before further action is taken.Jai Singh, who had retired from the Haryana Police around two years ago as an ESI, was living in his village after retirement and was engaged in farming. He is survived by two sons and a daughter. His elder son, Gaurav, works as a labourer, while his younger son, Nitin, is employed with the fire department.The incident was reported on Friday, following which personnel from Bari police station reached the spot and took the body into custody. A suicide note was also recovered from the scene.The note reportedly contains serious allegations against a person from the same village, including a dispute over Rs 22 lakh, alleged assault and threats to implicate Jai Singh in a false case.Sonipat Police spokesperson ASI Ravinder Singh said a murder case has been registered against Satta on the basis of a complaint filed by Nitin.However, police have not arrested anyone in connection with the case so far. According to the police spokesperson, investigators will first establish the facts and examine all the evidence before taking further legal action.The suicide note is being treated as an important piece of evidence. Police will examine the allegations made in the note and corroborate them with other available evidence.ASI Ravinder Singh said the handwriting in the suicide note would also be examined. Investigators will seek to establish whether the note was written by Jai Singh and whether its contents correspond with the circumstances leading up to his death.Police are also examining the allegations relating to the financial dispute. According to the suicide note, Jai Singh had reportedly given Rs 22 lakh to Satta and was allegedly facing difficulties in recovering the money.The note further reportedly alleges that when Jai Singh sought repayment, he was assaulted and threatened with being implicated in a false case.Police have stressed that these allegations have not yet been conclusively established. The contents of the suicide note will be verified during the investigation.A forensic team was called to the scene after the incident. The team examined the spot and collected samples, which have been sent to a laboratory for forensic analysis.Police are now awaiting the forensic findings, along with the handwriting examination and other evidence being gathered during the investigation. Officials said any further legal action would be taken after the evidence is assessed.The body was sent for post-mortem examination after the incident. Following the completion of the post-mortem, it was handed over to the family.Jai Singh’s last rites were subsequently performed in his native village in the presence of family members and relatives.ASI Ravinder Singh said the investigation is currently underway and police would take appropriate legal action once the facts are established.The investigation is expected to focus on the Rs 22 lakh financial transaction, allegations of assault and intimidation, the authenticity and handwriting of the suicide note, forensic evidence and the circumstances immediately preceding Jai Singh’s death.While a murder case has been registered on the basis of the deceased’s son’s complaint, police have so far refrained from making any arrest, saying the evidence must first be thoroughly examined.
