Thiruvananthapuram: Finance minister K N Balagopal announced that Rs 20 crore were allocated for the pension and other benefits of retired anganwadi workers. The govt provided financial assistance to the welfare fund board for anganwadi workers and helpers. This year, the govt was supposed to provide Rs 5.44 crore as assistance to the board, but Rs 61.32 crore were already made available, the minister said.The minister highlighted that despite financial constraints, the govt was offering substantial support to ensure the benefits for retired anganwadi employees. Over the past three years, the govt provided Rs 96.21 crore to the welfare fund board. In the budget for this period, Rs 21 crore were earmarked, but an additional Rs 75 crore was given, Balagopal said.
