Kanpur: A retired sub-inspector, Nankau Saroj, was arrested by Amethi police and produced before court of additional session judge XI in Kanpur to present evidence in the State v/s Salman Kana murder case, on Tuesday. According to the additional district govt counsel, Salman alias Kana had met his friend Saif alias Bholu to settle a financial dispute on May 26, 2023 in Moolganj area, where he shot him after a heated argument. Saif succumbed to his injuries during treatment.The court had failed to proceed in the absence of prosecution witness SI Nankau Saroja, who had been evading appearance in court despite summons, bailable warrant and non-bailable warrant. Presiding officer Subhash Singh wrote a letter to SP Amethi district on Apr 4 last stating that the high court had directed disposal of the case in a time-bound manner, but witness Nankau Saroj was not appearing in court to adduce his evidence. Recently, the high court asked for a report about development of the case.The judicial official, in his letter said it was expected that till completion of his evidence and issuence ofcertificate by the court, disbursement of pension be stopped and court be apprised of what action was taken in compliance of the court order.Amethi police had on Tuesday produced the retired SI, who adduced his evidence in court, but since it could not be concluded, evidence was put on hold.
