Times News NetworkKanpur: Residents of Kanpur Nagar continued to reel under sultry weather conditions on Wednesday as the city remained dry with bright sunshine and no significant cloud cover. The scorching heat, coupled with high humidity, made conditions uncomfortable during the day.The maximum temperature was recorded at 34.6°C, up by 0.4°C from Tuesday. However, the increased heat index made residents feel as though the temperature was around 43°C, with the daytime peak heat index touching 44°C.The observatory recorded maximum relative humidity at 86%. North-westerly winds blowing at speeds ranging from 4.1 to 7.9 kmph failed to provide any significant relief from the heat and humidity.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecast a 65% chance of rain on Wednesday, but the city, like Tuesday, remained dry. For Thursday, the IMD forecast is partly cloudy skies, high humidity and light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms across districts of the Kanpur division.Weather conditions may deteriorate during the afternoon or night, with showers accompanied by strong winds likely at some places. In Kanpur Nagar, periods of intense sunshine are expected along with humid conditions. There is a 65% possibility of scattered rain accompanied by lightning during the afternoon or late night.SN Sunil Pandey, weather expert at CSA University, said atmospheric moisture and the formation of new weather systems were increasing the moisture flow over the region. As a result, the Kanpur division is likely to witness increasing cloud cover from August 13.He said intermittent strong winds and scattered light to moderate rainfall accompanied by gusty winds, thunderstorms and lightning could occur at isolated places. Strong surface winds may also blow, while sunny spells are likely to continue intermittently. Humid conditions are expected to persist.
