Kanpur: A female leopard cub rescued from a primary school in the Chakarnagar area of Etawah on February 23, 2025, and brought to Etawah Safari Park died on March 1 while undergoing treatment after complaints of limping in her leg.On February 23, 2025, there was panic after the female leopard cub was found on the premises of a primary school in the Chakarnagar area. After receiving information, a forest department team reached the spot, safely rescued the cub, and brought her to the Etawah Safari Park.After the rescue, the cub was kept at the Leopard Safari Animal House of Etawah Safari Park, where she was looked after. From February 12, 2026, limping was noticed in one of her legs, following which wildlife veterinarians began her treatment. When her condition did not improve despite continuous treatment, she was shifted from the Animal House to the Wildlife Hospital three days ago, where a team of doctors conducted her regular examination and treatment.From the morning of March 1, the leopard appeared somewhat lethargic. Doctors treated her under observation, but she died at 3:56 pm. Following the incident, the park administration initiated the post-mortem procedure as per rules.Director of Etawah Safari Park, Anil Kumar Patel, said that the actual cause of death can be confirmed only after the post-mortem report comes in. He said, “The entire matter is currently under investigation.”
