Pune: Rescue teams on Monday recovered the body of a 19-year-old youth from Chikhali who drowned in the backwaters of Kasarsai dam near Hinjewadi on Sunday afternoon.The Shirgaon police have identified the deceased as Santosh Raut, who was currently residingin Chikhali and hailing from Beed district.An officer from the Shirgaon police said Raut and his four friends came to Kasarsai dam for an outing on Sunday.“They entered the backwaters, but two of the friendsdid not know how to swim. When they started drowning, the locals and others rescued one of them. However, Raut drowned,” the officer said.Teams of Shivdurga Mitra, Lonavla and Wanyajeen Rakshak, Maval, were pressed into service. “They carried out searches on Sunday but had to stop after dark,” he said.Sunil Gaikwad of the Shivdurga Mitra team said the members began a search againon Monday morning. “Raut’s body was taken out of the water around 11am,” Gaikwad said.
