Hyderabad: Telangana School Education Department on Thursday informed high court that it requested the state govt to sanction Rs 21 crore under the CURE (Core Urban Region Economy) initiative for the construction of a permanent building for the Govt Girls Primary School at Sitaphalmandi-II (Vijaya Dairy School), which has been functioning for nearly 60 years on the premises of Telangana State Dairy Development Cooperative Federation Ltd (Vijaya Dairy) at Lalapet. The department’s counsel submitted the response before a bench of Justice Vakiti Ramakrishna Reddy in response to a writ petition filed by the parents of students studying at the school, complaining of unsafe conditions in the existing dilapidated 60-year-old structure.Pending construction of the new building, authorities had permitted the school to function temporarily from Govt Primary School, Aaryavatika, Lalapet, located about 1.5 kilometre away, to ensure uninterrupted education for students for the upcoming academic year, 2026-27.The petitioners, through their counsel Chikkudu Prabhakar, sought directions from the court to allot five acres of land belonging to Vijaya Dairy for the construction of a new school building and to ensure the continuation of education for local children. In its submission, the department informed the court that the existing school building became unsafe due to its age and poor condition. A report submitted by the deputy inspector of schools, Marredpally, after an inspection in March, found the roof and other portions of the building were in a highly dilapidated condition, making it unsafe for classes, the department submitted.Subsequently, the district educational officer sought identification of suitable land for the construction of a new school building. The officer also requested the school education department to take up the project under the govt’s CURE initiative after land was allotted by Vijaya Dairy. Recording the submissions, the court posted the matter to June 8 for further hearing.
