Gurgaon: MCG on Friday issued a notice advising residents of Palam Vihar, Sector 23 and Sector 23A to inspect and replace old galvanised iron (GI) water supply connections, citing risks of leakage, corrosion and water contamination. The civic body stated the residential colonies were developed around 20 to 25 years ago, and many houses continue to rely on ageing GI water pipelines for supply connections.According to MCG, deterioration of the old pipelines could lead to leakage and contamination of drinking water, potentially affecting not only individual households but also nearby residents. The corporation warned that such conditions may create health and sanitation-related concerns in the area.Clarifying responsibility for the work, MCG said that the water connection from the main municipal line to individual houses is considered the personal property and responsibility of the house owners. As a result, inspection, repair and replacement work will have to be undertaken by residents at their own expense.“All residents are advised to get their old and damaged GI water connections inspected and replaced with new approved pipelines at the earliest to ensure a safe and hygienic water supply. It is further informed that the water connection from the MCG main line up to the individual house is the personal property/responsibility of the concerned house owner,” read the notice recently issued by the MCG additional commissioner.It added, “Residents are requested to cooperate with the department during inspection and replacement work to avoid inconvenience and maintain proper public health standards in the area.”The corporation also appealed to residents to cooperate with officials during inspection and replacement activities to avoid inconvenience and maintain public health standards.
