Agitated relatives and neighbours of Rahul Bind question the police outside Deepvihar Higher Secondary School, Mormugao, on Saturday

Vasco: Relatives and neighbours of Rahul Bind, who drowned at the Tonir–Kajredhat (Savarde) waterfall in Sattari taluka on Friday, have demanded action against the teachers and management of Deepvihar Higher Secondary School, Headland-Sada, Mormugao, alleging negligence.On Saturday, the group protested outside the school and questioned the management, claiming parents were not informed in advance about the trekking venue. They also alleged the school did not warn parents that the waterfall site has a history of fatal incidents. “We sent our wards for the trek with faith in the teachers,” said a relative. Protesters further alleged that no teacher visited Rahul’s home or checked on his parents after the incident.Another protester said the school failed to put safety measures and precautions in place, leading to the student’s death.Superintendent of police Gurudas Kadam said the family and protesters were informed about the investigation and that those responsible would be arrested.The school management described the incident as unfortunate and said it immediately alerted the police and forest authorities. School manager Sanjay Banaulikar said a tour operator was responsible for the students and was expected to take them to a safer trekking site permitted by govt. He said an internal inquiry was under way and the school would cooperate with the authorities. Banaulikar added that those found guilty would not be spared.
