Chennai: Park suburban station, one of the city’s busiest multimodal transit hubs, will be inaugurated in its redeveloped form by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through video conferencing on July 17 under the Amrit Station Scheme. The ₹14.79-crore project has upgraded the station with improved passenger amenities and seamless connectivity between suburban rail, MRTS and Metro services.The redeveloped station features a new entrance canopy, landmark tower, modern signage, a booking office with waiting spaces, resurfaced platforms, additional platform shelters, a new roof, two lifts to the foot overbridge and dedicated pedestrian walkways connecting directly to the MRTS station. The barrier-free facilities are expected to benefit senior citizens, persons with disabilities and patients visiting the nearby Govt General Hospital.Park station, which was opened on May 11, 1931, and at present handles 198 suburban trains and around 29,000 passengers daily, is a key interchange connecting Chennai Central, the suburban network, MRTS and Metro services.
