Mangaluru: Following a red alert issued by the meteorological department, Dakshina Kannada DC Darshan HV announced a holiday on Thursday for anganwadis, primary and high schools, and PU colleges as a precautionary measure.Fishermen have been directed not to venture into the sea, while district-level and taluk-level officials have been instructed to remain at their headquarters and respond promptly to public complaints. Tourists have also been advised not to venture into rivers or the sea.Meanwhile, till 8.30 am on July 1, the district recorded 67.3 mm rainfall, with Ullal recording 116.3 mm rainfall and Mulki-95.8mm and Mangaluru taluk 91.7 mm.Meanwhile, heavy rain that lashed the region throughout Tuesday night caused the collapse of the tall compound wall of a private property at Kerebail near Thokkottu, reducing a neighbouring house to rubble. A major tragedy was averted as the family living in the house had shifted out about two weeks ago, after sensing the danger, said sources.
