This initiative is done every year to encourage parents to confirm their childrens admission to Zilla Parishad schools on the auspicious occasion of Gudi Padwa

Kolhapur: The initiative by Kolhapur Zilla Parishad of ‘Gudi Padwa-Shala Sankhya Vadhva’ received a overwhelming response on Thursday. This initiative is done every year to encourage parents to confirm their children’s admission to Zilla Parishad schools on the auspicious occasion of Gudi Padwa.

Dr Meena Shendkar, district education officer (Primary), said, “Our initiative received a good response in Kolhapur Zilla Parishad schools. Out of 23,934 children who were eligible for admission in the district, 14,627 or 61.11% of them were admitted to Zilla Parishad schools on Gudi Padwa day.”

In civi body-run schools in Kolhapur city, Srimati Laxmibai Jarag Vidya Mandir at Jarag Nagar received a huge response from parents of securing their child’s admission in school. These parents were seen waiting for hours in the long queue for admission.

Colourful celebrations were seen across the city on Thursday. A huge colourful procession rally, ‘Shobha-Yatra’, was taken out in the city by a city-based dhol troop, ‘Karveer Garjana’. The rally started from Mirajkar Tikti area and concluded at Bhawani Mandap area after taking the route through Mahadwar Road and Gujari area.

Several women dressed in their traditional attire and adorning a ‘Kolhapuri Pheta’ participated in the rally along with their bikes.

Children were dressed in the attire of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Shri Ram, Vitthal, Khandoba, Goddess Mahalaxmi, and Baji Prabhu Deshpande attracted all eyes in the procession. The dhol-tasha troop members added to the festive enthusiasm of the citizens. Families in the city also decorated Gudi sticks at their homes.
