Panaji: Coming out in support of the town and country planning department, the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (Credai) condemned the “overnight occupation” of the TCP office by St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar and the villagers of Palem-Siridao.It also said it was deeply concerned over the protest against the provisions of Section 39A of the TCP Act.“The unauthorised occupation of a govt office, alleged intimidation of officers on duty, and actions that may compromise the security and confidentiality of official records raise serious concerns,” Credai’s Goa chapter said in a written statement.Credai also said it “strongly refutes generalised and unverified allegations” about due process being bypassed for land conversion. Credai said Section 39A was already challenged before the HC, and the matter is sub judice.“When an issue is under judicial consideration, it is appropriate that all stakeholders allow due legal process to take its course and respect the authority of the court. Any demand to scrap statutory provisions must be addressed through legislative and judicial mechanisms, not through disruption of administrative functioning,” said Credai. It also said that its members are complying with current laws, but unsubstantiated claims by protesters create unnecessary fear among citizens and damage confidence in the state.“Policy discussions must be evidence-based, transparent, and inclusive of all stakeholders, including local communities, planners, and industry bodies,” said Credai.
