Ahmedabad: Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) on Tuesday hosted a day-long workshop on police image and best practices in policing to address the widening trust gap between law enforcement and the public. IPS officers of DGP and IGP ranks from various states participated in the event to share critical insights on modernising the country’s security force.Prof Vikram Singh, former DGP of Uttar Pradesh and chancellor of Noida International University, asked police to shed their colonial-era feudal mindset and embrace humane, positive policing founded on genuine public trust. He strongly emphasised that police officers must act as facilitators of justice rather than symbols of authority.Participants highlighted various initiatives ranging from safe-space reporting mechanisms to data-centric preventive policing tools that leverage advanced artificial intelligence for crowd management. The session concluded with a roadmap for institutionalising these reforms, emphasising that training programmes at RRU will integrate these best practices to foster a more empathetic, community-oriented, and digitally advanced police force across India.
