Ranchi: The Ranchi police on Friday said that it would introduce QR codes to monitor movement of patrol teams and bring down response times in case of an emergency. The police said that the system would be functional after the upcomimg urban local body election is over.According to police officers, the process of setting up QR codes was underway in the city. Under the system, the patrolling parties would scan the QR codes on their patrolling routes with their mobile phones to register their live locations at the district’s police control room.Consequently, the control room would be in a better position to rush the nearest patrolling parties to the place of the incident, which in turn would improve the response time.Ranchi’s senior superintendent of police Rakesh Ranjan said, “The QR codes would be set up near banks, ATMs, jewellery shops, important road crossings, and other sensitive places. The increased police activities would have a psychological impact on criminals.”Sources said that the step would also make the patrolling system more transparent and responsible. It would ensure intensified patrolling near sensitive places, as well as areas where crime incidents were occurring repeatedly.Earlier, it could not be ascertained whether, after instructions, the patrolling parties were visiting the sensitive areas or not, the sources said.It would lead to better monitoring and movement of the police force.
