Ranchi: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has launched ward-wise drain cleaning and road repair works to tackle monsoon-related problems. Inspections of damaged roads, unsafe hoardings, and drains are also under way, official said.Waterlogging, overflowing drains, potholed roads, garbage accumulation, traffic disruptions, and unsafe hoardings are recurring problems at Main Road, Harmu, Lalpur, Ratu Road, besides several inner residential localities during heavy rain.Municipal commissioner Sushant Gaurav said, “The corporation has intensified pre-monsoon preparations to minimise disruptions. Cleaning of drains is being carried out in all wards on a roster basis. Teams have been asked to ensure timely removal of silt and garbage so that rainwater flows smoothly and waterlogging is curbed.”“Teams have been deployed to identify and remove dead trees. Pruning work will also be carried out to prevent accidents during strong winds and heavy rain,” he added.Manoj Gupta, a fruit vendor at Kokar, said, “Even light rainfall causes waterlogging and affects business. Drains overflow and garbage piles up. Every year, work happens before monsoon but problems return.”Amit Kumar, a resident of Harmu, said, “Cleaning before rain is important, but permanent drainage is needed.”
