Ranchi: An organised auto stand will be developed on around one acre of land near the Naga Baba Khatal vegetable market to ease congestion at Ratu Road Chowk and Kishori Yadav Chowk, officials said. The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) project, estimated at Rs 1.80 crore, is designed to accommodate more than 300 autos and provide drivers with a designated space to park and pick up passengers. Officials expect the facility to reduce roadside halts and waiting by autos along busy stretches that slow traffic around the two junctions.According to the proposed plan, autos will enter the stand from the vegetable market side and exit from the rear. Officials said the circulation plan would allow vehicles to move through the premises without crowding the adjoining roads.Municipal commissioner Sushant Gaurav inspected the site and directed officials to include passenger shelters, drinking water facilities and proper stormwater drainage in the project. He also asked that the stand be developed according to the approved design, with organised movement and marked spaces for autos.“The objective is not just to create a parking space for autos but to improve traffic movement and make public transport more convenient for commuters. The facility must be developed according to the approved design, with proper entry and exit arrangements and clearly marked parking bays,” Gaurav said.Auto drivers, however, said the stand must remain accessible to passengers and close enough to existing boarding points if it is to be used effectively.“We need a proper stand, but passengers should also be able to reach us easily. If the stand is away from the usual pick-up points, many may continue to wait on the main road,” said Dinesh, an auto driver operating around Ratu Road.
