Dhanbad: MLA Raj Sinha on Monday visited Baramuri to meet residents who fear losing their homes in a possible anti-encroachment drive. He heard their concerns and assured them that he would meet the Dhanbad deputy commissioner to seek relief.Dhanbad deputy commissioner Aditya Ranjan said Baramuri residents were allotted land for cattle sheds but built permanent houses and rented them out. He alleged that illegal activities were reported there, with weapons recovered recently. He said the administration would clear the entire area after completing a survey.During the visit, Sinha targeted the state govt and Congress-JMM alliance, accusing them of adopting contradictory positions on the issue. “First, they cause the pain and then pretend to provide the cure. This will not work,” Sinha said, criticising what he described as political posturing over the issue.Around 200 families were reportedly relocated to the area by the district administration in 2005. Residents fear that losing their houses would leave them without shelter and create serious livelihood problems. Local resident Sarjania Devi expressed concern over the uncertainty surrounding her family’s future. She said a former deputy commissioner had settled them in the area. “We have neither a job nor a business. If our house is demolished, where will we go with our cattle?” she asked. She urged the authorities to consider the plight of residents before taking any action that could deprive them of their homes.
