Ranchi: After being released from Giridih jail, where they were lodged for separate cases but of similar charges and became acquainted, three robbers were arrested on Wednesday for a robbery that they had planned behind bars and executed at a Bariatu-based jewellery store on Tuesday, police said.The accused were identified as Ashutosh Kumar, 26, and Mahesh Kumar Verma, 22, of Giridih besides Mohammad Siraj Ansari alias Sheru, 30, of Jamui in Bihar, police added.City SP, Paras Rana, said, “The three, wearing helmets and armed with a country-made pistol, looted around jewellery worth Rs 1.5-Rs 2 lakh from the shop.”“The three accused were identified based on CCTV footage and they were arrested on Wednesday morning. During interrogation, they revealed that they had met in Giridih jail, where they planned robberies,”he added.“Ashutosh and Mahesh arrived in Ranchi around two-and-a-half months ago and worked as delivery partners of a gig company, They thought of executing their robbery plan and called Siraj when they could not earn desired money,” the SP further said.Four cases were lodged against Ashutosh in Giridih, while Siraj was imprisoned in Giridih in 2023. Mahesh was imprisoned in 2021 for theft in Giridih, police added.A country-made pistol, two magazines, four live cartridges, two two-wheelers, and five mobile phones were seized from their possession, police said.
