Jammu, Oct 11: The Sanatan Dharam Natak Samaj on Saturday commenced its annual Ramleela at Dewana Mandir in Jammu East, marking the beginning of the Navratri celebrations with religious rituals and devotional performances.

The programme began with pooja and archana, followed by the formal inauguration by Jammu East MLA and Samaj Chairman Yudhvir Sethi in the presence of SHO Paccadanga Rakesh Manni, President Anil Masoom, General Secretary Bharat Bhushan and other members of the organising committee. The inauguration was marked by the hoisting of the flag.

Addressing the gathering, Sethi said Ramleela was an important medium for preserving Sanatan traditions and conveying the teachings of Lord Shri Ram. He said the performances promote values such as truth, righteousness, devotion and duty, while helping connect younger generations with India’s cultural heritage.

He also highlighted the role of religious and cultural events in fostering unity and brotherhood, and appreciated the Samaj for continuing the traditional annual celebration.

The opening performances drew appreciation from the audience, with artists presenting episodes from the Ramayana.

The Ramleela will continue throughout Navratri, featuring various episodes from the epic. The annual event remains a part of Jammu’s cultural calendar, bringing together devotees and spectators to celebrate religious traditions and promote community participation.
