Srinagar, Aug 28: From playful fights to lifelong support, the bond between brothers and sisters was celebrated with festive spirit as Raksha Bandhan brought families together on Friday across Jammu and Kashmir.
Temples across the Union Territory wore a festive look as people thronged religious places since the early hours of the morning to join special prayers.
The Jammu region witnessed a massive rush of the faithful, while special prayers were organised in temples across the Valley. In Srinagar, the Shankaracharya temple witnessed a massive rush of devotees since morning, where special prayers were held.
The district administration Srinagar had also made comprehensive arrangements for the smooth and hassle-free observance of Raksha Bandhan at the historic Shankaracharya Temple. Following the directions of Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, departments were asked to ensure shuttle services from Nehru Park to Shankaracharya Temple, smooth traffic movement, designated parking, uninterrupted drinking water and power supply, medical teams, first-aid facilities, cleanliness and sanitation along the pilgrimage route, fire safety, and security arrangements.
All concerned departments were directed to work in close coordination to ensure a safe, smooth, and spiritually fulfilling experience for devotees.
At the temple, the faithful said that Raksha Bandhan is a celebration of the beautiful bond between brothers and sisters. “Coming to Shankaracharya Temple makes the occasion even more special for us,” said Rohit, a local.
Kriti, a devotee, said: “We prayed for the happiness, health, and long life of our brothers and sisters. The festival is about love, trust, and the promise to stand by each other.”
“Raksha Bandhan reminds us that the bond between a brother and sister is not just about a rakhi, but about lifelong love, care, and protection,” she added.
Special prayers were also held at other temples across the Valley, including at Thajiwara Shiv Temple, known as Chota Amarnath, located in Thajiwara, Tehsil Bijbehara, District Anantnag, and in parts of North Kashmir, including along the Line of Control.
Raksha Bandhan is a festival celebrating the bond of love and protection between brothers and sisters, traditionally marked by sisters tying a sacred thread, or rakhi, on their brothers’ wrists.
