Nagpur: Sudden unseasonal rain accompanied by strong winds of up to 50 kmph lashed the city late Sunday night and continued into the early hours of Monday, uprooting trees at multiple locations and disrupting normal life.At Somalwada Square, a tree fell on an autorickshaw, crushing the vehicle. Fortunately, no major injuries were reported. In two other incidents, fallen trees snapped electricity lines, resulting in temporary power outages in affected areas.

The worst-hit localities included Manish Nagar and Somalwada, where several trees collapsed, blocking key roads and causing inconvenience to early morning commuters. A tree fell on Wardha Road in Somalwada around 6am, while other incidents were reported in Shriram Nagar, Paryavaran Nagar, and Ujjwal Nagar Hanuman temple and Layout No. 3.Around 12.30 am, strong gusts brought down several trees in quick succession, prompting multiple distress calls. Personnel from Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s Trimurti Nagar and Narendra Nagar fire stations worked through the night and well into Monday afternoon to clear debris and restore vehicular movement.Fire department sources said teams began operations as early as 6am and continued responding to calls till late at night. The Narendra Nagar fire station alone attended nearly 10 calls.In Somalwada’s Bante Layout, trees damaged entrance gate of a house on plot No. 104 and fell onto a vacant plot No. 110. Acting on inputs from corporator Sunil Dandekar, teams carried out swift clearance operations.By Monday afternoon, all major roads were cleared and traffic normalised.
