Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread thunderstorms, hailstorms across Telangana over the next four days, bringing much-awaited relief from the intense summer heat. Districts including Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Mahabubabad and Nagarkurnool have been placed under orange alert for heavy thunderstorms between May 5 and 7.According to the IMD, Hyderabad is also likely to witness widespread rain activity during the period, with maximum temperatures expected to gradually fall by 2°C to 5°C. Officials said the city and several other parts of the state are likely to remain below 39°C between May 5 and 8, offering a significant respite from ongoing heatwave conditions.“Hailstorms and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 30 to 40 kmph are very likely at isolated places in the alerted districts. Similar thunderstorm activity is also expected in Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Warangal, Hanumakonda and Rangareddy districts,” read a note from the IMD.Meanwhile, heatwave conditions continue to persist across the state. On Sunday, the highest maximum temperature in the state was recorded at 45.3°C in Raikal of Jagtial district. Several districts including Nirmal, Nizamabad and Adilabad also recorded temperatures above 44°C, while Hyderabad registered a maximum temperature of 42.5°C.
