Gurgaon: Around 93% of the rainfall the city has recorded so far this month came in just four days — 128.8mm of rain between Aug 4 and 7. Eight days into Aug, the city has recorded 138.2mm, against the normal monthly average of 50.5mm for this period — a surplus of 174%.In Aug 2025, the city received 230.2 mm of rainfall, 24% above the full-month normal of 185.1mm. This year, more than half of last Aug’s total rainfall has already been recorded in just the first eight days.“The good spell was primarily due to a monsoonal system that developed as a low-pressure area over southwest UP and adjoining Rajasthan and was positioned over this region for some time. The system resulted in significant rainfall activity over southern Haryana and adjoining areas. Punjab received comparatively less rain,” said Surender Paul, director at IMD Chandigarh, adding that the rainfall activity is likely to decrease slightly over the next two days.“There may still be intermittent spells, but they are not expected to be as intense. Around August 10-11 onwards, the monsoon is likely to weaken further, although occasional rainfall activity will continue.”After four straight days of heavy rain, Saturday saw relatively light showers — a morning drizzle followed by another spell around 1pm. By 5.30pm, NorthCap University had recorded 19mm for the day, according to IMD data. Other stations recorded lighter totals — Gurgaon (2mm), Kadipur, Harsaru and Wazirabad (1mm each), Badshapur, Sohna and Farrukhnagar (2mm each), and Manesar (4mm).The ongoing rain has pulled maximum temperatures down by nearly five degrees over the past 24 hours. Maximum temperatures were recorded at 31.8°C (KVK), 30.9°C (AWS) and 31.5°C (NorthCap University), while minimums stood at 25.6°C, 24.5°C and 26.2°C, respectively.While most arterial stretches remained waterlogging-free, sectors 23, 23A, 22 and 21, Palam Vihar, and the area around Old Delhi-Gurgaon Road were once again inundated within an hour of rainfall.IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall at many places in Haryana, with heavy rain likely at isolated places on Sunday. Light to moderate rain is expected to continue at a few places till Wednesday.For Sunday, light to moderate rainfall is likely at many places over Yamunanagar, while Chandigarh, Panchkula, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Karnal, Mahendragarh, Rewari, Sonipat, Panipat, Bhiwani and Charkhi Dadri may see rain at a few places. In Gurgaon, light to moderate rainfall is likely in isolated places, with similar conditions expected in Jhajjar, Nuh, Palwal, Faridabad, Rohtak, Sirsa, Fatehabad, Hisar and Jind.
