Srinagar, July 3: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places across Jammu and Kashmir from July 3 to July 5, with the possibility of heavy rainfall, brief intense showers and thunderstorms at a few locations.

According to the weather department, one or two spells of rain and thundershowers are likely mainly during late afternoon, evening and late night to early morning hours over the next three days.

The MET Centre said that from July 6 to July 9, the weather is expected to remain generally hot and humid, with light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places, while brief intense heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely at isolated locations.

The department said Udhampur recorded the highest rainfall of 85 mm during the latest spell, followed by Kathua ARG with 41.5 mm and Rajpura ARG with 27 mm, while light to moderate rainfall was recorded at other weather stations.

In its advisory, the MET Centre warned that heavy rainfall and brief intense showers at a few places may trigger localised flash floods, landslides and mudslides in vulnerable areas.

The weather department has advised people to stay away from nallas, streams and landslide- or mudslide-prone areas and to remain alert during periods of intense rainfall.
