Waterlogged stretch along EM Bypass on Sunday

Kolkata: Ahead of the Monday deadline, a senior KMC official on Saturday said about 85% of the repairs on the arterial roads across the city have been completed.Earlier, CM Suvendu Adhikari had said the roads would have to be repaired before Mahalaya. But KMC administrator and commissioner Smita Pandey had set a target to complete the road repairs by Monday (Oct 5.) on Thursday. However, rain had affected the work on some stretches on the service road along EM Bypass near PC Chandra Gardens and Alipore Road on Sunday afternoon. These stretches had witnessed waterlogging. The gaps in repairs spotted during the inspection would be taken care of on an immediate basis, she had said. The civic body will also keep emergency teams ready during Puja days to respond to requests for repairs. The remaining work would be taken up on Sunday and Monday nights, the official said.“Repairs are nearly complete in north and central Kolkata. Most of the pending work needs to be completed in south and east Kolkata,” said a KMC official. The civic body is taking up repairs on arterial roads at night when traffic is low. It will be impossible to carry out repairs during the day, officials said. On Saturday night, Alipore Road, DH Road, Burdwan Road and stretches on EM Bypass were repaired. The civic body is using paver blocks for repairs on stretches prone to waterlogging.
