Surat: After four decades in agricultural education and extension, retired professor R M Naik has been appointed vice-chancellor of Navsari Agricultural University (NAU). Known for his engagement with farmers and students, Naik will lead one of Gujarat’s premier agricultural institutions for the next five years.
The Gujarat govt appointed Naik vice-chancellor of NAU through a notification from the agriculture, farmers welfare and co-operation department.
Naik has spent 37 years in agricultural education and extension and is recognised for his association with farmers, students and rural outreach programmes.
He began his academic career in May 1989 with the erstwhile Gujarat Agricultural University. After the division of the university, he continued his service at Navsari Agricultural University and retired in Aug 2025 as professor and head of the department of agricultural extension and communication at NM College of Agriculture.
Naik has authored more than 100 publications at the state, national and international levels.
