Everyone has their two cents to offer, especially in the age of social media. Constant judgments and expectations can make you question your own confidence, slowly germinating self-doubt. Staying afloat amid all this requires an unflinching, unshakable sense of self-belief, where do you not allow anyone’s unsolicited opinion to derail your sense of self.

Bollywood actor Priyanka Chopra shared her perspective on this, using a surreal cosmic analogy to explain why other people’s opinions should not become the center of your reality.
The actor spoke about this on November 4, 2023 at Marshalls Good Stuff Social Club interview.
What did Priyanka Chopra say?
“You are the nucleus of your own molecule, so you are the universe, you are the entire universe in yourself. And everything else is moving around you, for you. How special is that? And that teaches you a little bit of detachment, I think a lot of religion too teaches about detachment. Detachment does not necessarily mean you are selfish or cold but you are detached from things that could destroy how your reality is because of what the perception of that might be to you. But just keeping your day good, your energy’s good, I think I have really started as I have grown older, whenever I have a spiral moment to pivot my brain, like tangibly pivot my brain and my thoughts, to where i am in the moment and to actually think about is it that bad or am I giving the power to the noise around me.”
What does this mean?
The analogy she used carries a lot of cosmic weight, as she compared one’s inner world to an entire universe. She implied that one’s feelings, thoughts, and experiences together make up their personal universe. In that sense, every person exists at the centre of their own reality. Other people’s judgments, prejudice, expectations, or opinions exist outside this universe, and should not affect you.
Priyanka also walked us through the concept of detachment. However, this does not mean being indifferent or cold. Rather, it means taking a step back, not reacting immediately and not allowing someone else’s opinion to disturb your peace. Criticism or negative perceptions should not be given so much power that it changes the way you look at yourself and your life.
The actor also observed that during a spiral moment, she ‘pivots’ her brain. This means, whenever she is overthinking, she consciously redirects her thoughts back to the present moment.
So, this is your own universe, and everything that unfolds, including the difficult feelings and experiences, eventually teach you something or help you grow, even if it does not seem apparent at the time.
