Quote of the day by Kelly Clarkson: ‘It’s ignorant to think you know everything about person, there are just different colors to personality,’ lesson on individuality and complex human nature by the ‘Breakaway’ singer. (Instagram)

Kelly Clarkson has been a reckoning force in the music industry since the early 2000s. From ‘Breakaway’ to ‘Stronger’ and ‘Since You’ve Been Gone,’ the star has worked on a lot of chart-topping numbers. Over the years, speaking from experience, Clarkson shared her thoughts on how everyone is different and that they cannot be judged just based on one instance since human beings are far more complex than that. The quote of the day by the famed singer reads, “It’s ignorant to think you know everything about a person. There are many different sides to everybody’s personality, and there are just different colors to a personality.”

What does the quote from Kelly Clarkson mean?

Kelly Clarkson’s words are all about understanding that one single instance cannot be used to judge a person’s entire life. (Instagram)

Kelly Clarkson said this line during a behind-the-scenes featurette for her ‘Mr. Know It All’ music video in late August 2011.The quote from the famed singer is all about understanding the concepts of snap judgments, assumptions, and superficial labeling. Inherently, she is talking about understanding the fact that every single person is unique in their own ways, and no single interaction, reputation, or public image can be the true definition of who a person is.Believing you completely understand someone, whether it be a celebrity, partner, coworker, or enemy, is a form of arrogance, and something that is not possible. People usually tend to pass judgement on others based on a specific thing or a behavior they observed in a specific context. The quote warns that assuming the part equals the whole is a misjudgment and inherently wrong.People are multi-faceted and have different personalities and traits, and there are a lot of different sides to an individual. People adapt based on where they are and who they are with. Someone who is stoic at work might be deeply emotional at home; someone who seems guarded on stage may be deeply open with close friends. Human nature is inherently complex and contradictory. A person can be strong and vulnerable, confident and insecure, serious and goofy, and reducing someone to a single thing strips away their humanity. At the end of the day, Clarkson’s quote is all about understanding that we need to stay curious about people rather than assuming we’ve got them all figured out. It also serves as a reminder that public figures, celebrities, and online personalities present curated snapshots, not their whole lives, and what they show on social media cannot be the only thing that may be used to define who they are. Clarkson also encourages us to accept our own complexity and that it’s okay to show different sides of ourselves in different seasons of life and let ourselves be vulnerable to the people around us.
