Bengaluru: Less than two days after Bengaluru Central City Corporation (BCCC) repaired a sinkhole on Church Street’s cobblestone surface, the road has caved in again. The sinkhole had appeared Monday when a garbage compactor drove into Church Street, which is prohibited for heavy vehicles.Visuals of the sinkhole reappearing went viral on social media. The spot was barricaded to prevent further damage and ensure pedestrian safety. The initial repair was reportedly carried out by the annual maintenance contractor responsible for maintaining shoulder drains and roadside drains. The contractor is said to have merely replaced the damaged slabs without assessing whether more comprehensive repairs were required.A BCCC engineer told TOI that the damaged stretch would be repaired over the weekend. The impact of the heavy vehicle had also damaged a BWSSB water supply line beneath the cobblestone surface, the engineer said. The corporation can take up full-fledged repairs only after BWSSB replaces the damaged pipe, the engineer added.
