Madikeri: Residents of Chikkanayakanahosahalli village near Kushalnagar have alleged that repeated blasting at a stone quarry in nearby Aragallu village is causing extensive damage to their homes and severely disrupting their daily lives.According to the villagers, powerful explosions carried out every evening at the quarry send shockwaves through the area, shaking houses and leaving residents frightened. They said walls tremble violently, kitchen utensils fall from shelves, and families often rush outdoors in panic.The quarry has been operating for the past four years, and residents claim the impact of the blasts has worsened over time. More than 20 houses located near the quarry have reportedly developed cracks, with villagers blaming the continuous vibrations for the damage.A cattle shed owned by agricultural labourers Rangaswamy and Mohini has developed major cracks and is reportedly on the verge of collapse. The couple alleged that even recently constructed RCC houses in the village have suffered structural damage. “Despite repeated complaints, no action has been taken. We do not know whom to approach for justice,” they said.Residents Kumar and Eeramma have also reported cracks in the walls of their house, while Geetha and Veerabhadra said a large crack has appeared in the hall of their home. Similar damage has been reported by farming couple Devadas and Parvathi.Villagers alleged that the loud noise and vibrations caused by the daily rock-blasting operations are affecting their mental well-being and causing distress among pregnant women, nursing mothers, infants, and elderly residents.Demanding immediate intervention, the residents urged the govt to assess the damage and take steps to ensure their safety. They questioned whether they could continue living in the area under the present circumstances.
