Mysuru/Chamarajanagar: Twelve days after a man was killed in a suspected tiger attack in Badagalapura village of Chamarajanagar district, authorities of the BRT Tiger Reserve rescued a tiger from the neighbouring village of Tavarekatte Moole early on Saturday.The tiger, estimated to be around five years old, was rescued after being tranquilised at 6am. Forest officials suspect it to be the same animal that attacked and killed farmer Basavanna in Badagalapura village.Following orders from the principal chief conservator of forests (wildlife), Bengaluru, the rescued tiger has been shifted to the rehabilitation centre at Koorgalli, Mysuru, for further care and monitoring.Basavanna was killed in a wild animal attack on Sept 14 while working in Badagalapura village, located along the fringes of the BRT Tiger Reserve in Chamarajanagar taluk.In response, an operation to capture the animal was launched on Sept 15 under the guidance of Malathi Priya M, chief conservator of forests, Chamarajanagar circle. Cameras and cages were installed in and around the attack site and nearby forest areas to trace the animal.The operation was led by BRT Tiger Reserve director and deputy conservator of forests Shripathi B. Two trained elephants, Kanjan and Eshwara, two thermal drones, a veterinary officer, skilled tribal trackers, and 65 Forest department personnel were deployed for the capture operation.
